Established in 2013, the Northwell Health Emergency Telepsychiatry program delivers Psychiatry consultation via two-way video to emergency department patients in 17 hospitals (both within and outside the health system). There have been over 40,000 consults performed since program inception and a significant reduction in ED wait times. Telepsychiatry ensures the emergency departments throughout our system will always be equipped to manage a patient in crisis who needs psychiatric care and support. Northwell’s telepsychiatry team is made up of board-certified psychiatrists, licensed social workers and mental health counselors, and administrative support staff.
